So I realized today that as of this week, I have been knitting for 3 years. And I have never attempted a sweater or socks. So this week I intend to at least start a sweater.
Any good tips?
I finally started a sweater for myself… and my biggest tip is…
make SURE you have gauge!!! I couldn’t get it with the needle size listed… or even with two needles smaller (apparently I’m soooper loose)… so I had my LYS sweater guru help me and now I’m finally happy with the process.
I think I swatched a total of 12 times, which included hand washing and drying. I was certain that I could have done the whole darn thing in the time it took JUST to get gauge.
I will second that - when getting back into knitting after many years, I made a sweater without paying enough attention to the guage and it turned out big enough to be a nightgown. Still haven’t found any large men who want it.
I too will have been knitting for almost 3 years in October. I also haven’t done a sweater (for people at least) or socks yet. Unfortunately neither I nor anyone I know wears knitted sweaters. I am planning to knit my first pair of socks soon, now that I have my long circulars for magic loop.
