"Going up a needle size"

I’m a relative newbie knitter. I am starting a pattern: Good Egg. The directions say to use size 3.25mm needles and to ‘go up a size’ for the colorwork section.

Does that mean to go up to 3.5mm, or to go up a full size; to 4.25mm?

Thanks for your help!

Lovely sweater. The first needle size is given in US sizes, a size #3. Going up a size would be a US#4 which is 3.5mm.
Of course you can always play around with a swatch in the colorwork pattern and stockinette. Some of the knitters on this sweater have stayed with the larger needle for the body too.

Yes, unless the pattern specifically states both needle sizes.
