Gloves:holes between the fingers help

How do you avoid the holes between the fingers when knitting gloves? Or at least decrease the size of the holes so there isn’t so much finishing. What am I doing wrong?

I find the easiest way is to pick up more stitches than called for in the pattern. I then decrease back down to the number in the pattern over the next row or 2.

I’ve got the same problem, no matter how much stitches I pick up (I tried picking up 2 stitches where there was 1) - there always is a hole… Any good instructions out on the net on this subject? For the ones I find all are along the line of “just wing it” and I kind of want to know exactly what to do… For my way of “just try and see how it looks” isn’t working.

I found this article, it has tips on avoiding holes:

Knitting Daily Love the Glove

and one of the suggestions is the same as the one that PlantGoddess made!

I use the the tail of my yarn to tighten up the stitches or a catch the stitch where the next stitches are picked up with a locking stitch marker and that keeps it from stretching out. If there is still a hole , I would pick up a few extra stitches and decrease in the first two rounds of the finger. Hope this helps.

I don’t knit gloves but I do socks a-plenty and to avoid holes I don’t add extra stitches but pick up the stitch below where the hole is and knit it together with the stitch above. When you look at the completed socks you can’t tell what I did. I do this on both sides of the gusset and have no holes.

I have to remember and try the stitch below thing. I started doing my short rows on heels by knitting or purling in the stitch below then placing that stitch on the left needle next to the stitch that would have been the W&T stitch. To pick up, just k2tog or p2tog.

Just remember not to twist the stitch and your good to go!

I have the same problem , but some of the tips on here should help fix them. Many thanks
