Glass Knitting Needles

Hi, does anybody know where to get glass knitting needles? Oh, and does anybody know if they’re any good? Like is there something that you don’t like about them?

I know I would break them!

Thanks :).

Ya, I’d probably end up breaking them too but they look so cool :).

They do look cool and I’m sure they’re tempered or something to make them strong. I hope so!

Well most of the ones I read about are made with Pyrex and they say it’s very durable . . . but I’m still scared to break 'em  lol. The cheapest ones I found were fifteen dollars (don’t know about the shipping though) on sale. I’m dying to get a pair but I have to wait for the money :pout:.

I’ve been looking at these. I don’t want to knit with them. I just want to buy them so I can look at them! :teehee:

They would make a cool gift.

I have 3 pair that I got on Ebay a couple years ago. I just had them out for “show and tell” at my weekly knitter’s meet-up. Mine are made of pyrex (borosilicate I believe). They are pretty sturdy, but I’m sure if I dropped them on a hard floor they’d snap. :teehee:
I have knit only a tiny bit with them - they are pretty slippery. Some people may not like the rubbing together of glass rods, but it didn’t bother me. I got them more for the neato factor and for display 'cuz I’m a goon for tools and gadgets.

That’s what I would want them for. I see cool exotic wooden ones and want them for that, too–to put in a vase or something.

Thanks  . . . I don’t think I’ve been to that website yet. lol.

Ya, I’d love it if someone would give me a pair  whispers especially cause they’re so expensive .

Thanks for the info BinkyKat . . . it’s good to know :). I never thought about them rubbing together :?? . . . do they make noise? or do you just feel it in the needles? Hey, cute name by the way :).

I always thought glass needles were so pretty but I was always afraid of breaking them as well. I also didn’t consider the noise factor. Are they much louder than metal needles clicking together?

Eh, it’s not so noticeable. I don’t think any different that two glasses touching, but they don’t “ting” like crystal. Some people can be sensitive to even how acrylic yarn “sounds” or feels going across certain needles. One of my friends says she doesn’t like how it “sqeaks” if you can visualize that.

Thanks! My av is the Binkster himself

dbl post…

Ok that’s good :). If it made lots of noise my sister would go nuts :gah: . . . she hates glass and metal noises  lol.

Your welcome :). Ohh, he’s cute :).

I want to do the same thing! IMO they would be ornamental and not ‘useful’.

hi
You can search online for Cristal Palace.com, they are the importers of knitting glass needles. I tried on the shop I work, its fun, and its suposse to don’t broke. they shine in the night when you knitt, and thats good.

www.glasspens.com is a great place for all kinds of pretty glass knitting things. They have glass straights, DPNs and circs, plus bamboo ones with glass toppers. They make and sell the items online, and I believe they might have a store, or sell them at a craft fair.
There is also http://www.glass2art.com/
Both places are in Oregon, just so you know.
