Getting a pattern from a piece of work

Hi, I’m Veronica, an glad to be on this forum. I have lost a pattern and would like to have someone help me with the pattern by looking at a picture of it.

Your photo is not very clear. It is also posted sideways! That’s alright.

It appears that, after some rows of garter stitch, you have two rows of stocking stitch. Then there are two rows of seed stitch, and two more of stocking stitch. Then repeat as many times as needed, and then it looks like all stocking stitch.

What is it that you are making? Do you know where you found this pattern?

There is something peculiar about the seed stitch. It looks like you are twisting all the knit stitches! I guess it gives you a bit of different texture… but wonder why you are doing that.

Thank you so much for your response. That is a bonnet that my aunt knitted for my daughter 37 years ago!!! Sorry, I posted it sideways!! I have kept it as a memento and recently wanted to knit something using that pattern. Unfortunately, my aunt not only lost the pattern but can’t remember it.

I’ll try twisting the knit stitches and see if it turns out to be the pattern used in that bonnet. Thanks again.

Thank you so much Paddi. I tried the seed stitch, twisting the plain stitch and it worked.

Good! So glad to hear it. Don’t be afraid to try different things.
Some of them will work very well, some not so much. But at least you
will know. That is what the swatch is for… to experiment, to try
out, to see if you like the way it looks or if you like how to do it!
But try everything! Keep your ‘samples’ for later study… they will
come in handy one day! I have mine from years ago. You will see things
you didn’t before.

There are so many things to learn about knitting, some small things
that your teacher forgot to tell you, and it seems to make a HUGE
difference in your work. Keep studying, and trying. That’s the fun of
it all.
