German Short rows

I am looking at the instructions for petite knit Storm Sweater. It starts top down and uses German short rows. I have watched videos for this and get the instructions on how to do this. However, the instructions on the pattern are a bit confusing. Could someone please clarify

Instuctions:

Work back and forth in tsxture pattern with short rows as follows:

Row 1 (RS) the first stitch is the turning stitch , then work k3p1 repeat from “to” to 3 sts before where you joined new yarn, k5, turn (I assume the first stitch is where you slip the stitch purlwise and pull up to make double looking stitch) Yes?

Row 2 Purl to 2 sts after last WS turn, turn. (This I don’t get ) Is the last WS turn the turning stitch you made on the RS in Row 1?

Row 3 same as 1

Row 4 same as 2

Do you make a turning stitch on the first stitch every time you turn the work? Do this on Rows 2 and 4 even thought this is not stated?

B ecause the next part says to continue working back and forth with short rows as follows:

Row 1(RS) Knit to 2 sts after the last RS turn, turn

Row 2 (WS)Knit to 2 sts after the last WS turn, turn

Again, do I make a turning stitch at the beginning of every turn?

I hope I made this clear

There are several comments on the German short rows in the projects so it’s confusing more than one knitter.
Row 1: Yes, however the row before Row 1 ended, there is a probably a turn and then a DS to begin Row 1.

Row 2: The last WS turn is followed by the DS, the turning stitch from Row 1. You’re going to to work to 2sts past that DS and then turn.

Do you make a turning stitch on the first stitch every time you turn the work? Do this on Rows 2 and 4 even thought this is not stated?
The turning stitch is made 2sts after the last DS. When you work to 2sts past the last DS, turn the work, make a DS and continue on that row. That turning stitch or DS is considered stitch one.

Again, do I make a turning stitch at the beginning of every turn?
Make the turn from the previous row to the next row and then make the DS. So you’re making a DS or turning stitch at the beginning of the next short row.

One project knitter comments on the repeated use of the work turn which can be confusing. It’s more helpful to think of
Row 1(RS) Knit to 2 sts after the last RS turn, turn
as Row 1(RS) Knit to 2 sts after the DS, turn
