Hey there! I have just recently gotten back into knitting and decided to knit a sweater from the top down. I am doing the no-frills sweater by petite knit. I did my first German short row and the increases, but on two places (the purple and the blue) somehow there are two stitches now for the Raglan stitch. I think the yellow and red and ok, but I really don’t know for sure.
I’m wondering if I need to go rip it out or if maybe I could fudge and just stitch the two together. Or maybe my stitch marker just needs moved? But I’m not even sure if I did the increases correctly.Welcome to the forum!
It may be that you just need to move the blue and purple markers so that it’s clear only one of the two sts is the centeral raglan. Your increases should be either side of that marked stitch, probably 8 increase stitches per increase round. The German short rows won’t turn to give you a double stitch at or inside the marked stitches.
Counting stitches between the raglan stitch will help you decide where the marked raglan stitch should be. Petit Knit’s patterns are usually good at giving stitch numbers for front, back and sleeves especially in the beginning and end of the yoke. I can almost count the sts from you very clear photo but you can do that more accurately with the actual sts.
If you decide there’s a mistake and need to take it out it would be safer to tink back along the round to the error.

It’s painful to have to do this but worth getting it right in the beginning and avoiding a consistent error.
Thank you for your reply. I ended up making a test swatch so I could practice and learn the two techniques. But now I’m confused on the next part of the instructions. See pic.
I was getting the extra stitch because I was moving the stitch marker, and THEN making the stitch rather then making the stitch first.
Ah, good to figure out where you were going off. That’s the best way.
For the following instructions, you’re continueing the short rows. There will be more rows in the back of the neck and the rows will gradually taper off toward the front neck.
Count sts after the last turn as described (i.e. knit or purl the double stitch from the German short row then count sts before making the next double stitch). The spacing will be 2sts on each side of the back, 3sts on each side, 3sts each side again and finally 4sts. You’ll gradually be extending the row toward and probably into the front of the sweater.
You’ll still be working the raglan increases while you are working the short rows. The markers at the raglan stitch will be a reminder.
