I hope someone can help me with this. I’ve been putting it off.
This Laleh sock pattern is attached. I’m done with the Gusset part then came to the Heel using German short-rows. I watched videos to learn the techniques but I’m still confused. I’m at the Heel, Row 1, (N2) k to last 15 {before end of round}, turn work. I don’t understand the {} note. I have place marker at first 15 sts, and marker at last 15 sts. Oh, I’m confused. So knit to last 15 before end of round, ? am I turn work before I knit the 15 sts or after I knit the 15 sts. I am so confused that I don’t know how to ask the question so I would receive the answer.
I would appreciate your explanation on this method.

For the heel part of the sock, all the short row action is on needle 2. You have 55sts on needle 2 with the beginning of round marker at the end of needle 2.
Needle 1 is just working across the k2 sts on either side of the 23 chart sts.
Row 1 (RS): (N1) K2 , SM,
work Instep chart across next 23 sts, SM,
k2;
(N2) k to last 15 sts {before end of round}, turn work.
For needle 2 work across 38sts which will bring you to the last 15sts. The end of round marker is at the other end of these 15sts. The “before end of round” is reinforcing the fact that there should be 15sts unworked on the left hand needle. Then turn for row 2 and work a double stitch for German short row then purl back on needle 2 until there are 15sts before the end of this row.
Thank you. Much clearer. So I turn at the marker then work a double stitch. Then I only repeat Row 3-4 THREE more times. That is not many but I am working on it right now. Thanks!
What I work was wrong so I undo it.
I’m not understanding the direction is it.
I have 15sts, marker, 25sts in the middle, marker, 40sts which is 15sts to the end.
You instruction is to knit across 38sts, this bring me to 2sts before the last 15sts.
Do I turn at 38sts or at 40sts?
I have knit short rows before on sock but this first time on this pattern that has German short rows.
Sorry, that’s my mistake. Are you knitting the smallest size? That’s the one that has the direction to knit to 15sts before the end of round. For the smallest size you would have 55sts on needle 2 (55-15=40sts). So you would knit across 40sts leaving 15sts before the end of round marker.
You’re correct, turn at 40sts. Sorry for the confusion.
I should have said the size at the beginning.
I started again. On Row 2 work double st, purl to last 15 {before center of round}, turn work. Now, “before center of round” doesn’t mean sense. I already pass the center of round.
I am only be working both ends of the middle stitches.
All these short rows are worked on needle 2. You’ve knit up to the last 15sts on needle 2 then turned and made the double stitch. Now you are on the purl side. Purl to 15sts from the end of needle 2 and turn. You’ll be working back and forth needle 2 only. It may be easier to disregard the bracket instructions in regard to end or center of round.
I’m so grateful to you. The drawing made a lot sense. And disregarding the note brackets also work better. I’m able to work through the heel. I will continue to work the heel flap starting tomorrow cause I need some sleep.
I’ll finally finished my Laleh sock, blocked it too. I have to say that using the German short-row method on the heel wasn’t that difficult but the instruction was confusing to me especially the noted brackets. It just drove me crazy. I do like the way it turned out and how it fits on my heel, it hugs my heel and it doesn’t have those pointy corners.
Once again, I really appreciated your help and patience.

Well done. These are the heels I do in socks and slipper socks. I kept trying to make sense of the pattern and kept failing. I do my socks magic loop so all the heel and gusset stitches are on one needle. I’m glad salmonmac is more capable of understanding and interpreting patterns.
