Gathering in Bound Off Shoulder Seams

Hi! I am at a standstill in my knitting project because I don’t know how to gather in a seam that is already bound off. I checked youtube for anything that might be there, but I did not find anything. I also checked the multiple knitting reference books that I own.

I’m using a free pattern from Cascade.com:

The part I am having trouble with reads: “Sew shoulders: First gather the front shoulders in about one inch and then sew front shoulders
to back, leaving a reasonable gap for the back of the neck. The gathering creates a slightly vee’d neckline.”

This is one of the very few projects I am making for myself as opposed to giving away, so I would love to be able to finish it and wear it to work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!

Oh, vague, vague, vague and not even a schematic to help you out. I’d gather the front seam in by running some sewing thread or fine yarn through the front bind off and pulling the seam in (gathering it) by the recommended inch. Then seam the front to the back and remove the gathering thread. I think the measurement to make sure of is the space for the back of the neck. Maybe you can look at other sweaters or hold the back of this one up to you to get an idea of how long that area should be.

I really like the looks of this pattern and was trying to figure it out and wasn’t able to. I’m very interested in how BlargTastic does it so I can decide whether to try it myself.
