Garter edging rolling

Not real fussy considering caplet is for myself but the garter st rolling on both sides is extreme. Used Caron simply soft so I’m thinking draping isn’t the problem. I used needles recommended but watched tutorial about this issue and suggested upping one needle size for garter st (9). Curious if anyone has tried this. Also in tutorial mentioned acrylic yarn doesn’t work as well for blocking witch I never do for myself. My try at lace and would like to make smaller size different colors but finally used cinnamon yarn I’ve had stashed for 27 yrs lol. Any help would be great. :tulip:![image|1200x900](upload://w42GAhMBMQcsqMelMQecVI6y86S

I should have mentioned when wearing caplet garter edging folds in and you can’t see any of it down the front on left or right side. Could it be it’s to large (lg, x-lg) sorry for second post

Does the border roll or does it flip? Flipping of borders is caused by gauge differences between stockinette or other stitch patterns and garter stitch. Fewer stitches on the bottom band or smaller needles work for me. For front bands I add a short row of garter stitch every so often - I eyeball it and see when a short row is needed. This video addresses the problem.

I watched same video actually and would have to say flipping because I can’t see it when wearing it. Already changed to smaller needles for bottom and top so on the 5 garter st on both sides for front what you suggest is maybe change both garter st to 3 garter st on same row occasionally when it looks flatter?

You want to work an extra 2 rows on the border rather than fewer sts. This is because garter stitch is more compact than stockinette so to get an equal measurement of length needs an extra row or 2 every so often.

A wider garter border will somewhat counterack the flip but stockinette is very determined to roll. Have you tried blocking the capelet? Sometimes pinning out wet wool or very carefully steaming acrylic will help with the roll. (Don’t iron the acrylic but use steam to ease it flatter.)

Tyvm. I will be using this for edging and stranded knitting also. Suzanne has good videos. Knitting help is such a helpful site :tulip:
