Found 7mm and 7.5 needles!

You know that ridiculous and inexplicable size break in American knitting needles between size 10.5 and 11? From 6.5mm to 8mm??? Someone on here suggested Hiyahiyas, and I mentioned it to a friend of mine who said she had just ordered from them. She said not only do they carry 7mm and 7.5mm needles in circulars and dpns (she didn’t know about straights since she doesn’t use them), but also that they are great needles, not very expensive and they have incredible customer service. So for anyone looking, their contact is qianerhuang@hotmail.com.

Hey all-- just bumping this in case someone’s tearing their hair out over those missing needle sizes and would like the info!

I found a website for them and they talk about being a distributor. They do sell direct to individual’s though, not just to shops?

Hi Suzeeq,
My understanding is that there is a company, that company sells to distributors/shops, who you can then buy from. Apparently the best thing to do is e-mail the address I posted. My friend said that when she did that, the guy got back to her within an hour or 2, had already forwarded her request to his distributor in the US near her, who then immediately contacted her, etc., that it sounded a little cumbersome, but actually incredibly fast and easy and she was extremely impressed and happy with the whole business. I think you mentioned in a previous post that you only like to use circulars? They do carry them in those sizes, and I think in various cord lengths, and possibly even custom cord lengths-- but I’m not sure. Hope this helps!

Thank you for this information–it’s really helpful, but…

:hair: argh! I could’ve used this very same size needles today while doing my gauge swatch–I needed something between a US 10½ & 11! Why isn’t there something between these two sizes???

There is, just hard to find…

I know!!! It really it a mystery as to why US needles makers did that-- UK/OZ/NZ figured it out! Actually this would make a good research project for someone! Or a campaign project-- get petitions started to all the major US needle manufacturers!

– Especially because then after 8mm, they go back to just skipping 1mm, even though those are larger sizes???

That is odd. What would you like to call them if available? 7 and 7.5 mm in the middle of the old-fashioned scale, or size 10.67 and 10.83 needles?

:chair:

They’re sometimes called 10.75 and 10.875. Addi has a few of their needles in these sizes but they call 7mm 10.5 and 7.5 10.75. I’m not sure what their 6.5mm is if they even have them…

Over here, our needles are just done by mm size, so it’s easy  And if anyone wants me to pick up those sizes and send them over, just pm me - they’re readily available anywhere that sells knitting stuff around here. My very first scarf was on 7mm needles - I got so confused when I went to order knitpicks and found that there were 2 missing sizes - thought I’d just missed something.

I love them. Years ago when I was newly knitting, I was frustrated because I wanted a size between US 10½s and 11s. Then when I started up again year before last, I discovered 2 metric sizes and set about getting some of them. They’re great for what I like to do.

I was thinking that if you have the ability to shop online, you could order them from a British (or other European) knitting shop. The shipping shouldn’t be really outrageous. Here are a few with 7.0 and 7.5mm needles. I believe £1= $2 right now, and 1 Euro = about $1.50 or so.
