For people owned by cats

Think you’ll enjoy this poem if you know cats. Not my poem and I don’t have cats. I’m a touch allergic. My mouth ’ fries up’ and I feel very unusual when cats are around me. Of course, when I ignore cats they come up and crawl all over me wondering why I don’t sweep them up in my arms because they’re so cute. I don’t know if this is new or old. Just enjoy if you like it. Cat Prayer

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray this cushy life to keep.
I pray for toys that look like mice,
And sofa cushions, soft and nice.
I pray for gourmet kitty snacks,
And someone nice to scratch my back,
For windowsills all warm and bright,
For shadows to explore at night.
I pray I’ll always stay real cool
And keep the secret feline rule
To NEVER tell a human that
The world is really ruled by CATS!

That’s so cute! And true! My last kitty died a couple yrs ago, but I’m sure I’ll have other before long. So glad I’m not allergic!

Every now and then (when we get icy, snowy, blowy weather here in Texas), our cat gets on our bed, and we turn the electric blanket up to high. At first, she’s all curled up in a tight “I’m cold” ball, but about 10 minutes later, she’s stretched out like she’s sunbathing in the heat of summer. That’s when you know your kitty’s done, and you can turn your electric blanket down or off.

She also does a great rendition of “Hello”–usually when it’s raining and she’s stranded and desperate on the window sill!!

Thanks for sharing the poem.

:roflhard: Cute! I love kitties and miss mine terribly. She’s my avatar.

Yes, Antares. I believe cats coined the words, ‘creature comforts’.
I believe I could write something on your subject of a desparate, stranded cat on a windowsill in the rain. If I do I’ll be sure to send it to you.

Actually I could probably write a documentary on that subject. They did an entire movie on the ‘Cat on a Hot Tin Roof’ theme - and there wasn’t even a cat in it.

I’ve seen your avatar for a long time. A gorgeous cat. I’m a dog trainer and know a couple hundred breeds but only a few cat breeds. Was yours per chance a chocolate point Himalayan? I’ve always admired that breed. Can’t have one because my lips would look like an unfortunate medical collagen experiment gone wrong.

The kitty in my avatar is named Marshmallow. She was a Seal Point, Mitted Ragdoll breed cat.

Wow, Jan! What an extremely handsome animal. I said I didn’t know very many cat breeds and I guess I proved that. Your avatar colors are very different than this newest picture and softer like the ‘chocolate point’, at least on my screen.

Perhaps cat breeds are just like dog breeds having been crossed for centuries to obtain their standards. Could the Mitted Ragdoll have a bit of Himalayan in it’s ancestry?

I understand how much you miss her. Pets have a way of wheedling their way into your home, then your heart. Unfortunately that’s the part that’s broken when they leave. Jean

Thanks, Jean! Yes, the avatar is darker. She looked just like the photo with that white furry ruff. I used to bury my face in her neck and snuzzle her. :teehee: I took some of the fur to my knitting group and one of the women took a bit of it and spun it in her fingers. It worked beautifully. Now if I’d only saved all that fur over those 19 yrs… :zombie:

They don’t seem to know exactly which cats were bred to create Ragdolls. There’s a lot of speculation and the original creator of them seems to be a little wacky. I think it’s probably safe to say it was some combination of Birman and or Himalayan and another cat. Most of the Ragdolls I’ve seen look more like a Birman.

I love that poem! We had to put our 19 year old gray tabby down few years ago - we’d had her since she was born. I swear sometimes I still feel her spirit in my home. Thanks for sharing.
