FO - Preemie hats and booties

Finished these and they are ready to mail to Kimmie.

The softness just comes right through in the pictures. Beautiful, really.

I love the idea of those socks. Where did you find the pattern? They actually look like they’d stay on.

Oh Jan, they are so so sweet!

I am so copying you for the KAL. My very first knitted item (after the scarf) was a pink roll brim hat. I love making pink hats, and have made plenty since.

All of yours look great! I love all the decreases, they look so sharp.

Great job.

It’s the 4 needle pattern on this page. I used magic loop.

Thanks!

Thank you! Those should be fast!

Yeah, YOU should be able to whip out a pair in an hour! :roflhard: :roflhard: Took me a little longer. I agree, they do look like they’d stay on. These are so tiny. I like the idea that you can adjust the size so easily, too.

So cute and adorable jan!

Jan, they look adorable. I’m still working on my projects. What patterns did you use for those little hats?

Beautiful work!

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

I’ve made so many hats I just sort do them on my own now. But, there are a lot here where I got ideas.

This is my pattern for the little pink hat and I sort used it as a guide for all of them, but I used a different CO for each of them.

[b]CO 70 stitches on size 3 needles and knit about 1.5 inches or so then switched to size 4. I’m not sure that made any difference though.

Knit for about 4 inches measured from CO row. Switch to DPNs or whatever method you like for small diameter knitting.

Start decreasing :
k8, k2tog
Knit 2 rows even

k7, k2tog
Knit 2 rows even

k6, k2tog
Knit 1 row even

k5, k2tog
Knit 1 row even

k4, k2tog
knit 1 row

Continue decrease rows in pattern now and when you are down to about 8 stitches cut yarn and pull through loops twice and weave in.

Thanks, Jan. I really appreciate you sharing that.

My knitting experience isn’t great enough yet that I’ve figured out how to make changes to patterns. The tiny little hats I’ve made so far all seem to be bigger than Kimmie has requested, even though I’ve gone down one and two needle sizes. I’ve been using some really soft dk weight acrylic I have on hand (pastel).

I’ve not managed to make a hat smaller than 2 1/2" diameter (unstretched, measured from insides of brim). It’s a preemie size, but not “plum” sized, more like tangerine sized, I’d say. Plus, it was a straight needle pattern, and I’m concerned about the ridge created by the seam being uncomfortable to a tiny little preemie’s head. I’d like to knit them in the round to avoid that.

Most of mine have been bigger, too. You need to cast on fewer stitches to get a smaller diameter. I’m sure you are doing fine. They need all sizes.

Jan, those are so sweet!

Thanks, Jan!

Those are just adorable Jan! Great job!

Those look really nice … I love the booties too, very sweet. Thanks for sharing the hat pattern … I’ve been kind of winging it with mixed results.

I love them!! :happydance:

Those are darling

Beautiful work, Jan!! What a wonderful project to knit for!
