I knit this hat as a gift for The Boyfriend’s best friend’s soon-to-be 7 year old sister’s birthday (follow that?). Her favorite color is purple and she loves things that are shiny, so when I saw Caron Simply Soft Party I squee’d.
This is my first time knitting a hat and my first time knitting reversible cables. I loved both. I suck at figuring gauge in the round so this hat will probably fit her until college, but I think too big is better than too small. It is meant to be worn brim folded-up or down, but I think it looks better folded.
I plan on making the matching scarf for her, as well.
I took out one repeat and made it a litte bit shorter, but I’m not too worried about it because-- and as her pseudo-big sister, I mean this with TONS of love- she’s got a big round head.
I wish it hadn’t taken me so long to make my first hat! For the last few years I’ve shied away from anything that I couldn’t fit on my straight needles because I was nervous about investing in circs. SO GLAD I DID. I’ve got some more hats, scarves, and a couple afghans to go for Christmas :knitting: , but I’m thinking I’m going to start my first sweater in January 2011.
PS- How crazy is that that I’m talking about January 2011 being in the near future??! This has been a FAST YEAR.
A very nice job on your first hat! I’m glad you didn’t wait any longer either. Aren’t hats fun? :cheering: I agree that this year has gone fast. Your January sweater will be here in no time.
