FO My Own Design -- Cables

I love working cables, so I designed this sweater myself for DGS Dean, age 4. I used Ann Budd’s “The Knitter’s Handy Book of Sweater Patterns,” Barbara G. Walker’s “A Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns,” and Nancie M. Wiseman’s “The Knitter’s Book of Finishing Techniques.” The yarn is Cotton-Ease.

That’s very pretty!!

Great job on the pattern design! And I love the color you chose as well … I’m sure he’ll love it! :cheering:

These pictures go with the initial post in this thread. I had not made them small enough, and then could not edit the post to add them. So here they are, the back and a closeup of the fish buttons.

Wow…I am really impressed…beautiful work…great job! :cheering:

Beautiful!!!
The fish buttons are a perfect touch for a fisherman sweater.

Don’tcha just love Barbara Walker’s volumes?

That is a wonderful sweater!!!:inlove:

Thanks. I love the volume that I have. If I am not knitting something, I am practicing a new pattern. Do you have the other volumes? and are they worth buying?

I have her first and second volumes, bought when they were first published. I used volume 1 to keep the family in fisherman knits for years. That’s were I learned how to calculate increases after the ribbing.
I’m just finishing up a pullover using the Gingerbread Castle on page 242 in Vol. 2.

I’ve never seen any of her subsequent volumes, but I can imagine they would also be wonderful.

If you love cables as I do, I bet you’d really enjoy VIKING PATTERNS FOR KNITTING by Elsebeth Lavold. I recently added that to my library.

I bought the book for the Gingerbread Castle pattern. I used it, and also the Enchanted Cottage pattern on an afghan for DGD, age 7.

Thanks for the suggestion of Lavold’s book.

Gorgeous sweater and a great design.

Gorgeous!!! you did a great job on the design and execution!!

Thanks, everybody. This sweater was so much fun to knit!

Beautiful work!!! I am loving those cables!!!
