FO: Child's sweater with E. Lavold cables

I have just finished this sweater for 7-yr-old DGD. I used cable patterns from Elsebeth’s Lavold’s “Viking Patterns for Knitting.” Many thanks to LANA for suggesting that I would enjoy the cables in this book. I used the tables in Ann Budd’s “The Knitter’s Handy Book of Sweater Patterns” for the sweater dimensions. Here are the pictures:

WOW - that is simply gorgeous!

Beautiful work putting together your own pattern … it looks awesome! And the buttons are too cute! :woot:

Wow, that is stunning! Beautiful work! :inlove:

Wonderful cable placements, exquisitely finished.

Anyone who likes cables, would L:heart:VE Elsebeth’s Lavold’s “Viking Patterns for Knitting.”

Absolutely gorgeous!! You are talented.

This is absolutely gorgeous! An heirloom piece! I recognize Elsebeth’s ‘Viking Cables’! You adapted them perfectly! I am very very impressed with your work and this darling sweater!!!

Wow … I’m speechless (and that doesn’t happen often)! This is incredible! Great job!!

It’s really lovely! I like it!

It’s so intricate and beautiful. I love the cable right by the buttonhole band, and how it spreads out into that diamond shape on the front chest. Oh, and I love the motif in the center back, and the twists around the midriff. I’m so impressed!

That’s beautiful! Lovely, lovely work. I know she’ll be very proud of it.

Thanks so much everybody! This sweater was so much fun to do, and I’m sure DGD will love it. The diamond patterns depict the Viking happiness sign. I forgot to say in the first post that the yarn is Lion cotton-ease (50% cotton and 50% acrylic) and I used size 6 needles. The yarn calls for size 8, but the cables are much better defined with size 6. I love knitting with cotton-ease.

aprilbetty, that is a beautiful sweater!! All the elements go together so well. The yarn really shows off your bold cables, interesting placement of the cables too. I like your collar and the little buttons are the finishing touch. I’ll bet your granddaughter likes that. Lovely knitting and planning. :woot:

Thanks! The planning of the sweaters is as much fun as the knitting.

Beautiful !
