FO - Baby Blanket

I present my Lion Brand Jiffy in “fisherman,” double stranded, six skeins, size 17 needle, four days, scrunchable baby blanket. It’s for one of the pharmacists at work. I thought about it Friday while leaving work, decided to start it on Saturday and left on Wednesday, so I had to get it done by Tuesday night. It’s now stashed under my dad’s desk, awaiting her baby shower. Too bad I won’t get to give it to her myself.
I’m not horribly proud of it. I think I would be if I’d made it a bit longer and therefore more square, but I was running out of time, so it ended up being approximately forty inches by thirty inches.

So what is it that makes something “scrunchable”?

It’s k2p1 every row. I’m not entirely sure why that’s “scrunchable,” though. Ask KellyK!

It’s scrunchable because it’s squishy. Cate–babies are about 20" long. I’m sure your blanket will be plenty big. And it looks so soft, I’m sure they’ll cherish it!

I know it’s long enough, but I wanted it to be SQUARE! :roflhard: The goal was 36" by 36".

Well now, thanks to you, the baby will be hip rather than square. It’ll make a great crib blanket as a rectangle!

Way to go Ingrid w/ the silver lining…!!

I think the blanket is great–it looks very very soft!

Great idea with the HUGE needles & double stranding…

It looks like it will be very warm. Great fro the carriage or car seat too.

Very pretty!
I received a blanked that’s about the same size as that one for my shower, and I use it ALL the time with DD. It’s the one I use for her at night. It fits her perfectly - the other blankets we have are too big and end up all bunched up around her.

I think the baby will love it no matter what size it is! It looks soooo soft and…scrunchy!

Thanks, everyone. Gimmiesanity, you made me feel a lot better about it not being square! Hehe.

WOW 4 days!!! It looks very soft and comfy

oooh, it looks so snuggly!

After making I decided that I want one. But I have no idea where I’d find a needle big enough for a Cate-sized blanket.

I love that blanket, it looks so soft and snuggly!!! Nice job!

It look so soft and warm! Nice, Cate!

Hello I have a question about this pattern… I was wondering if I could make that blanket with the k2p1 pattern with this yarn.
Velvetspun: Article 580

Weight Category: 5 - Bulky: Chunky, Craft, Rug Yarn

3.00 oz./85 g (54 yd/49 m)
100% Polyester

Knit: 8 sts x 16 rows = 4" (10 cm) on size 10.5 (6.5mm) needles
Crochet: 9 sc x 9 rows = 4" (10 cm) with K-10.5 (6.5mm) hook

I am making my Brother and Wife a sweater and hat for their baby show and would love to make a matching blanket. That pattern seems so easy that I was hoping I could use this yarn. I am a new knitter and I am a bit nervous about trying anything new. Thank you for your help…

It should work with any yarn at any size, though some yarn will show the pattern better than others. I’ve never seen that yarn, so I don’t know what it will look like, but you can try it and find out. The only important thing is for the cast on to be a multiple of three stitches. If you make one, I’d love to see a picture!

ok great I guess I will just have to try it. Do you think I should do a double strand like you did with a large needle or just stick with the 1 stand size 10.5 needle it calls for? Just wondering what you think Thanks
