Who here has worn flip-top or convertible mittens/gloves? I want to make some, and I’m not sure whether to make ones with just one opening for the hand (like mittens with a “hat”), or with separate short fingers (like fingerless gloves with a hat). Which one is warmer? More comfortable? Which do you like wearing better and why? I figure on keeping the thumb enclosed…
I prefer no finger holes. They’re easier to get on and off, much easier to knit, and sometimes I want to curl my fingers into my palm for warmth. I recommend the pattern called Pop Up Paws by Mary O’Keefe-Dockman.
Thank you both! This is just the kind of information I was hoping for. Plus–how nice that you prefer to wear the kind that are easier to knit! Thank you again.
I wore those for years and years… WITH finger holes, just like 2 or 3 rows. That makes them sit better in my opinion. When thinking of making some for myself, I thought of making them with WITH the little stubs.
and, yes, the tumb stays a regual “glove thumb”, but you can steal the idea off the hunting gloves and make a slit on one side near the base, then you can “dive out” with your tumb and use the “bare finger” if needed.
