Flaum knitting pattern

Hello,
I’m also knitting the Flaum sweater and searched for this forum out of frustration.
I have knitted the collar piece and am in the process of knitting the yoke which is picked up from the collar. As a previous poster mentioned, it’s a bit confusing as to how to maintain the 1x1 rib when adding stitches as it seems to throw off the knit purl pattern of the 1x1 rib. I’ve fumbled through it for a couple of inches but pulled it out several times because the M1L and M1R stitches looks messy and throws off the ribbing. There is a close up photo of the collar and yoke on page 3 of the pattern in which the M1s do not show up at all. It appears to be straight uninterrupted 1x1 rib coming down from the back collar. There is no indication of M1s in this photo, which is misleading. If anyone has successfully knit this and can give me some guidance, I’d appreciate it!
Thank you so much in advance. I Iove this sweater, and am determined to complete it, but need som help with moving forward.

It helps to work the increase M1 as a knit and on the next row, incorporate the increased stitch into the rib pattern. It’s going to start a new set of ribbing sts (brioche knit and purl) which will be completed when you work the next increase. Then you’ll have a pair of knits and purls in the brioche stitch.

Don’t try to follow the written pattern but instead, look at your knitting to determine whether the stitch is a brioche knit or purl. It’s “reading your knitting” rather than following the written out row direction. You don’t want the increase to throw off the columns of sts set up on previous rows.

If you don’t like the M1, you can work a yarn over increase and then on the return row, work into the back of the yarn over to twist it. That sometimes works better.

There’s also errata noted on the Ravelry page although your pattern may have been updated to include the corrections.

Because this is brioche, it can be painful to rip out and restart so a lifeline is a lifesaver.
