First time cabling

I am working on a cable scarf (huzzah! it actually looks like cables!) but I wanted to check something before I continue–I hate fixing mistakes in knitting (ah crochet, how I love you) so I want to catch it before I have to frog stuff.

I just finished the first 23 rows of the cable pattern and ready to start on the repeat. The pattern is here:

Criss Cross Cable With Twists
Rows 1 (RS), 5: p2, c4f, p4, c4f, p2
Rows 2, 4, 6, 11, 15, 19, 24: k2, p4, k4, p4, k2
Rows 3, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22: p2, k4, p4, k4, p2
Row 7: (t4b, t4f) twice
Rows 9, 13, 17, 21: k2, p4, c4f, p4, k2
Row 23: (t4f, t4b) twice
Rep Rows 1-24.

CO 32 sts.
Work Seed Stitch 4 rows.
Keeping first and last 4 sts of every row in Seed Stitch (knit the purl sts and purl the knit sts as they face you) and working 4 sts on each side of cable in Rev St st, begin Criss Cross Cable With Twists over center 16 sts.
This is how the first two rows are set up:
Row 1 (RS): (k1, p1) twice, p4, row 1 of cable over next 16 sts, p4, (k1, p1) twice
Row 2 (WS): (p1, k1) twice, k4, row 2 of cable over next 16 sts, k4, (p1, k1) twice
Rep until desired length. End with Row 2 of cable pattern completed.
Work Seed Stitch 4 rows.
BO.

What I am confused by is this: it says to repeat rows 1-24 but there is no row 24 described… I have the four foundational seed stitch rows and the 23 for the cable pattern. Do I now start at row 1 as described in the pattern or am I missing something?

Thanks for any help!

here’s the link to the pattern: http://knittingonthenet.com/patterns/scarfcable.htm

Hi and welcome to KH. Well hidden in the instructions, there is a row 24. It’s one of those things that until you see it, it simply isn’t there. Please don’t ask how many times I’ve missed similar things.

Rows 2, 4, 6, 11, 15, 19, 24: k2, p4, k4, p4, k2

GrumpyGramma-- first, thank you for the welcome  second, well would you look right there, row 24. I’ve lived up to my wool for brains name it seems lol This is my most complicated project to date so it took me a while to even figure out how to read the pattern. Thanks again!!

Glad I could help. As I said, I’ve done the same thing. :roflhard:

i had to go back and read that a couple times before i saw it…

I said it was well hidden, didn’t I? LOL I bolded the number so it might pop out. Until you see it, it simply isn’t there.

I love your name ‘woolforbrains!’

A tip I can give you is that when you are doing cables, don’t be a slave to the instructions and counting. Learn how to recognize a knit and purl stitch. Knits will look like little V’s. Purls will look like little turtleneck sweater collars. In real cables, they follow a pattern. If you are working with a 4 stitch cable, you will twist these every fourth row. On a 6 stitch cable, every 6th row, etc. On all the other rows, knit the knits and purl the purls. No counting needed past the initial setup rows.
