First sweater help

Hi all,

I’m working on my first sweater - a top down child’s sweater - the Tater’s Cotton Cardi (http://www.mariegracedesigns.com/marie_grace/freepatterns/TatersCottonCardi.pdf?download=Download)

I’ve finished the increases (“Continue in stockinette…”) and I’m on to the next bit which is giving me trouble. Here it is:

Work even until piece measures 6 (7.25, 7.5) inches from beginning.
Place each section on separate waste yarn as follows…

Basically my question is do I knit even before or after I separate the sections. Doing it before seems kind of odd because that’d leave me with several inches after my raglan increases before I start the sleeves. I’m so confused!

Thanks in advance!

Knit even means to knit without any more increases. The measurement is from wherever you started, so when you reach the one for your size, THEN you put the sections on scrap yarn or holders. That might only be an inch or 2 after the increase.

Thanks suzeeq. That’s what I thought but I just wanted to make sure!
