First Stitch

I am trying to learn how to knit…and on this website the videos had the ways how to do it…there was the one where you wrapped the yarn around your thumb and index fingers…and you’d do the left hook, right hook and so on?..well I couldn’t keep hold of the yarn. I couldn’t figure out the knitting part because the video went so fast…that part I don’t care about…I know alot of knitters…how can I keep ahold of the yarn? also I had a hell of a time making a easy slipknot…:roflhard: what is WRONG with me??? :roflhard:

The only thing wrong is that you’re new. Give yourself a chance.

When you do that cast on, you drape the yarn over your thumb and index finger and then hold both strands in your palm with your other fingers. Help?

Welcome to Knitting Help! Nothing is wrong with you. We all feel like we’re all thumbs when we first start. :teehee:

It sounds like you’re having trouble doing the cast on. Sometimes it’s helpful to have still pictures when learning in addition to the videos. Here’s a few good sites to take a look at.

This one has a good picture for a slip knot.
