Finished zip up cardigan

I was planning on putting this up some time ago but was delayed because I was too angry at my sewing machine to figure out why it wouldn’t work on my sweater, so I finally just sewed it by hand. It was supposed to be for my nieces birthday back in January but it is a little late now.

That pattern is here, http://www.berroco.com/exclusives/zippy/zippy.html, if that doesn’t work it is on berroco.com under free children’s patterns called zippy cardigan. I used caron simply soft yarn, but I think I should have used smaller needles because my stitches are kind of loose. I didn’t do a guage swatch though so it is my own fault. Oh well. The lovely little model is my daughter, Tonda.

That’s SO cute!!!

That sweater is adorable! Your daughter is a rare gem, too! What a beauty!

Good Googly MOOGLY that girl is C U T E!!!

LOVE LOVE LOVE the sweater!!! I think it looks PERFECT!!! we are our own worst critics eh?

Your daughter is beautiful and so is the sweater!!

What a cutey!!! The sweater turned out really nice.

The few times I put zippers in knits, I hand sewed them.
I think it’s easier to keep the knit fabric from stretching.

I"ve never even SEWN a zipper…that is majorly lacking in my “sewing education”

after my gf has her baby, I’m going to have her show me, so I can do cool things like that sweater~!!

Pink Sweater + Tonda = Major Cuteness!

Cute! That looks great on her.

That pattern is here,

http://www.berroco.com/exclusives/zippy/zippy.html, if that doesn’t work it is on berroco.com

This link will work http://www.berroco.com/exclusives/zippy/zippy.html
(the comma after html was throwing it off)

Keep at it.
P.S. What size did you make for this?

That is a very adorable sweater. I have been wondering if attaching zippers is hard to do. Your daughter looks quite happy, too!

Your daughter is beautiful! Love those gorgeous eyes! The sweater is really pretty, too!

Thanks everybody!

I followed the pattern for a size 4, but my daughter is only 3 and she is considered pretty big for her age so I think this is going to be a bit big on my niece for a while who is smaller and younger. That’s alright though because then she can wear it longer.

I had actually started sewing the zipper in with the sewing machine and it looked fine on the sweater, for some reason my bobbin wouldn’t wind correctly though so it would keep getting jammed up. I am just a really slow hand sewer so I prefer to use the machine when I can. I found a really good blog online that helped me do the zipper, it is http://acunningplan.typepad.com/andsheknitstoo/2005/09/zippers_101.html

I didn’t follow it to the T but it helped me tremendously and has great pictures.

Thanks jamadian75 for redoing the link for me, I didn’t even think about the comma!

So precious! (daughter and sweater)

Sweater is great and your daughter is soo cute! Love the hair!

So, where in Wisconsin are you? I am in Verona, outside Madison. Used to live in Oshkosh…

So precious! What a perfect color for your daughter. Gorgeous!

And thanks for the link to the zipper help - I can’t sew my way out of a paper bag!

That is so good!!! I wish I had the skill to knit a sweater, but I just started knitting only a couple months back. :roflhard: Anyway, I think it looks great.
