Finished the octopus! šŸ™

Thanks everyone! They should say it takes a village to knit a jumper. I was determined to finish this in time for the one year anniversary of learning to knit and I pretty much did it! I’ve attached a pic of the first jumper I made last year.

Theres loads I’d do differently if (and probably when) I do this again. But that just means I’ve learned loads. I had a blast making this. Thanks for all of the help and encouragement.

When you jump into something you go all the way. The first sweater is so nicely knit (maybe with twisted knits?) and the octopus! I’m in awe. What a fabulous sweater, a blue ribbon sweater for sure.

Ha! Yes, I wrapped all of my purls the wrong way on that first one. Thanks so much!

Both sweaters are terrific. What adventure next?

The original plan was to have a break or do a plain sweater in the round but I seem to have accidentally cast on for this… :joy:

These things happen. Not going to be dull either.

The twisted purls give it a more interesting texture! A happy mistake!

Beautiful just beautiful. Congratulations

Fabulous! Amazing!

How did the size turn out? I saw a few on ravelry made size changes which I thought almost impossible with the octopus chart and just hoped it came out a good size for you.

Thanks so much!

Thank you so much! I ended up going for the larger size. The shape of it is a bit odd, the arm holes are pretty high up in the pattern so I think if I’d done the medium it probably would have fit better in the body but been uncomfortable in general. So I just went oversized and made sure that the fabric had a good drape to it so it didn’t feel too bulky and it’s worked out pretty well, it’s very comfy on. So glad I didn’t knit it in the round though, it’s very warm just as intarsia!

Another knitter very kindly donated me the chart that she’d completely redone which has a much better shape and is charted for dk. Definitely going to do that once I’ve recovered from doing this one! Thanks again for all of your help and encouragement, it’s so appreciated!

I’m so glad you got a size that fits. I do remember people mentioning high armholes, short yoke, and some had altered those measurements. I don’t make raglan tops (have done in the early days of knitting before I knew anything about different construction types and discovered we didn’t like them) and to me altering the size in that area sounds impossible.

Heavier weight yarn with stranded work must be extremely warm, definitely have to consider where one lives and the general climate for that!

Wow! That is wonderful. Well done. You’re obviously a natural :blush:xxx

I seem to see octopuses at every turn.

Luckily I live on the coast in north east England so I’ll be able to wear this 11 months of the year! :joy:

That’s really kind, thank you!

Have to admit I’m tempted!

I’m north west… I can also wear my warm sweaters 11 months (or more) of the year, and layer them up, so i need plenty. When I started knitting I made cute summer tops in cotton, never worn, I don’t know what I was thinking. They are not warm enough for 11 months then the one week we have a heat wave they are too much!

Waving at you from across the country!
