This is my first time on this site. I am hoping someone has an answer for me. I have knitted Debbie Bliss Teddy Bear. (free pattern) I thought all went well, until now. I am trying to put the pieces together, only I do not know what the pieces are supposed to look like! There are no illustrations. I think I may have sewn 2 hand pieces together, thinking they are the body. The only pieces I have left to sew, do NOT look like the arms in the photo on the pattern. I really want to finish this for my granddaughter, and I am afraid to cut into the seam of what I thought was the body, for fear I will cut the stitches. How do I get myself out of this mess? I am a beginning knitter. Thank you anyone!
Hi and welcome to the forum!
Is this the pattern or is it another?
Can you post a photo of all the pieces laid out flat if possible? Use the landscape icon in the top center of the Reply box.
I took some photos. Hopefully they are not too big. And that you can see what I have done or not done. Thank you.
Lovely knitting!
The difference between the arms and the body is subtle. The body piece has a cast on of 22sts followed by 10 rows straight knitting. The arm has a cast on of 4sts followed by increases at each end. Both pieces end with decreases to one stitch.
I’m wondering if this piece is the body (arrow).
If that’s so, you’ll have to take out the pieces (arms) that were seamed together. Don’t cut the seam. Tease out the yarn from where it’s woven in and from the seam. Once you find the first stitch gently pull on either side of it to open up the next couple of seam sts and pull them out.
(I did exactly the same thing when I made this bear. Yes, a diagram would have helped.)
Thank you so very much! I will do this tonight. I am nervous, but the worst that will happen is I will have to knit a section over. It has been a good lesson for me. I will send a photo of it completed, when that happens. (I’d like to get it done before Ruthie turns 1!)
