Finger down gloves

Quick question. I’m wanting to make finger down gloves, but am unsure on how to join the fingers. Not using a pattern, just winging it.

I’ve read that you just k2tog, I’ve also read that I should graft instead. I’m starting the fingers on 2 circs using the Turkish cast on, then moving to DPN’s once the fingers are finished.

If grafting is the way to go, do I just ad the extra stitches I’ve lost during grafting, and how many stitches would I need to graft to close the gaps.

Is there another way to do this?

Thanks for any help or ideas.

I never actually tried it, but I was interested in this method for making gloves. You might find something useful in the info.

I’ve not actually made gloves yet. I thought I should let you know that.

Here’s one method of doing it (or rather two). The knitter recommends grafting or if that’s too fiddley, using the tails of the yarn from the fingers to sew up the holes between fingers. I suppose k2tog would work too, instead of grafting. Are you knitting tubes for the fingers or are you going to try I-cord fingers?

Thanks both of you, those where the two sites I’d already found. LOL. Hence my conflict on which method to use.

salmonmac, I’m going to use the tubes.

I was looking at this video for another reason, but the girl (who sounds like she’s about 10) actually mentions using it for fingers for gloves. Knitting in The Round Straight

I’m interested in following your progress so please update as you go along. A photo of your FO would be icing on the cake.

Thanks for the link, doesn’t help with the join, but it was a new way to learn. Pretty interesting.

I’ll let you all know if I get done with the fingers and there are no holes, and actually finish gloves.

Well, after messing it up the first time and starting the three fingers over, its going really well.

I’ve just attached the pinky finger and I’m loving the way Nona instructs you for joins. It was a tad tricky adapting my own pattern. There is just one tiny hole between each finger, nothing that can’t be closed up really easy when weaving in.

What I really like is the fact that the bulk isn’t there between the fingers, like it is when you pick up and knit.

Anyway, just wanted to update everyone who helped.

Thanks so much,
