Felting in a front load washer?

Hi there, has anyone done this? If so what did you do and did it turn out okay?

thx?

I did 2 pairs of FT clogs in a front loading washer. It took longer than in a top loader but worked great! I was able to check on the progress by stopping the cycle, on my machine that would unlock the door.
Good luck! I will be happy to help if you have specific questions!

Yes, I have also. I was told that it would not felt due to the fact that there is not supposed to be any agitation. Well, I put a wool shawl in that kitty had barfed all over and set it for cold water, ulta gentle cycle. Whoops, instant felted shawl! :ick:

Since then I had felted things (on purpose) and it works fine. I would suggest doing a test swatch and put it through the washer to see what happens.

I felt in my front loader all the time. I just know it will take at least an entire cycle and sometimes more to get the fabric the way I want it.

Different yarns take different times.

Check your item often til you figure out what works for you.

Just watch that spin cycle. I have one purse with a permanent crease because I didn’t take it out in time.

Best,
Susan

Cool - I was thinking I¨d have to felt by hand because I have a front loader too! Now I need some yarn… :pout:

thanks everyone! I will (hopefully) have my Booga bag done by the end of this week and will try and felt it next weekend. I’m kind of nervous though, since I am using Patons SWS, and everyone talks about nightmares felting this one.

I’m guessing it’s the soy content that’s the problem since soy won’t felt. Also, sometimes white won’t felt because the yarn has been bleached.
