Felting for charity

Hi,
I am new to knitting, but want to knit dog blankets for a local rescue. Can I use a super bulky weight ( wool and acrylic blend) to felt? Or does the yarn have to be all wool in order to felt up correctly? Thank you, Gail

Wool felts best, some blends that are mostly wool will felt to a degree. You could wash a small swatch and see. Or you can make a big blanket, try to felt it. If it doesn’t shrink, it will be clean.

I’m really surprised they want a felted blanket  Because to wash it would be a hassle.,and probably take forever to dry it.You can’t put this in a dryer.I would check and see if they really want a felted blanket.

Here are some good guidelines for knitting shelter blankets.

Note that they specify ACRYLIC because it can be machine washed and dried, and suggest soft, fluffy, cuddly yarns.
