Hello! I have had a felting-tastrophe and I am not sure how to fix it!
I have made some felted (or to be felted) slippers using Rowan’s Big Wool. I made a similar pair using the same wool a few years ago and was terrified when I put them in the washing machine (especially as I finished them on Christmas morning and they were a gift for my sister!). They came out perfectly! This time I was not nervous at all, and they are a disaster! The pattern suggested a wash at 50 degrees but that did not seem to be an option. I decided to try 40 first off, and they did not felt at all, put a hole down the middle and now the wool is all loose and scaggy (if that is a word). I assumed it was a temperature issue so I stitched up the whole and put them back in at 60, and they are still loose and awful looking. I assume the issue is the way cycle I am using (cotton at 60 degrees). I am not sure if they are fixable but if they are I fear I may only have one more chance! Our washing machine has different cycles labeled things like “cotton”, “jeans” etc but you can adjust temperature within these cycles. I wondered if the cycle I chose did not allow it to sit in water enough. Any ideas?! Thank you all!
