February KAL - Scrubbies

I reserve one special white scrubbie to wash the dirt of my potatoes before baking! Works like a charm! And WOW, it takes off a lot of dirt! For carrots too, those stringy thingies.

Good idea!

I did it! I did it! got my first one done. Was a Bernat “Natural Ombre” Cotton with white tulle. Now to put it to work after you all get a picture of it of course.

Oh I really love it Dangles! Very nice!!!

Way to go Dangles.

I think it’s time for me to knit a couple more. I gave one of mine to a freind that doesn’t have a dishwasher. She was very impressed:)

Thanks Dollyce adn luvmykid28, the dishes said rub a dub dub i await you in the sink!! I was not sure what was in the tulle so i had it boiling water for 2 minutes prior to use. The tulle was not too bad to knit with. I just thought of it as exfoliating my hands as I knit, haha.

Now a colour coded system?? Dollyce, I really like your veggie cleaner idea. Now to knit some for my folks and neighbour.

Okay, I have officially joined in this KAL… I have had a problem finding the nylon though so I bought some plastic canvas yarn I think it is. kind of has a scrubbie feel to it and I made one. It is a gift though so I couldn’t try it out. I will make myself one and see how well it works it feels like those spongies things that you buy at the store for scrubbing. So, I am hoping that it works well. I will post pics later as I haven’t taken them just yet.

Artlady I think you have such wonderfull ideas and now I can make even more of these for people that I know would use them on the things other than dishes. Thanks so much.

Welcome aboard Lbeck. Way to go finding a substitute. I hope it works for you.

Remember those vinyl (?) cutting boards that OPRAH had on her FAVORITE THINGS a couple years ago? They were a set of 4: green for cutting veggies & fruit; pink for cutting up red meats; yellow for cutting poultry; and blue for cutting up seafood. This color coding prevents cross-contamination. I still use them. They are dishwasher safe, and I still spritz them with Clorox Cleanup before washing, but NEVER cut veggies for your salads on the same cutting board you cut up meats or fish.

Well, I was thinking…this same principle could apply to our scrubbies as gifts: green netting for washing fruits and veggies; blue netting for doing dishes; and yellow for the bathroom tub; white for the stove and microwave.

Or something like that. I use my white scrubbie for the potato and carrot skins. No cross contamination.

Anyhoo, I think it would be cool to give a set of 3 color-coded scrubbies to someone, colored for different uses!

Artlady, I just thinking along the exact same lines. Great minds think alike

This means another trip across the border to Michaels then… I picked up 1-white and 1-ivory 25ydx6" rolls…up here they cost a whopping 6.99 per roll. Where as across the border it’s 2.99 :o

If only there is another way to get them … and actual nylon netting.

The netting lady won’t ship to Canada? :??

You know I have no idea, I haven’t asked

Just checked the two links you had posted, they said it is possible depending on the order. hmmm…

Linda and her daughter both have netting, and they are very good a customer service issues. I pinged her and asked about the Canada shipping question. Will let you know what she says, if you don’t find out sooner. Here is her website page for the nylon netting, and her CONTACT ME is at the bottom of the page.

[NYLON NETTING SPOOLS](http://www.knitsandbitsbylinda.com/nylon-netting.html)

GOOD NEWS, Dangles. Linda will ship to Canada!

However, whereas the shipping for 4 spools to a US location is $7.60…the shipping to a Canadian address is $19. Just $11.40 more…but at least you can get it!

I asked her how much to ship 10 spools to Canada. Still the $19?
If not, how much additional. Haven’t heard back, yet. Linda is so good about responding quickly so I’ll hear soon.

Four spools will get you about 24-28 scrubbies. That oughta do!
Six or seven scrubbies per spool if you slice the spools in half.

Ok, I’m back with Canadian shipping costs for you, Dangles.

up to 1lb = $19.00
1lb 1oz - 2lb = #20.75
2lb 1oz - 3lb = $22.50
3lb 1oz - 4lb = $24.25
4lb 1oz - 5lb = $26.00

So of course, the more you buy at one time, the better shipping rate. Notice, the first up to 1 lb is $19. But the next pound is just $1.75 more.

Anyhoo, this is common for shipping rates. The first unit is always the greatest because it includes the dimensions of the box plus up to 1 lb. Then when you add extra weight, it just increases the price based on the greater weight only.

Dollyce, you rock! Time to find myself a place in Blaine to get the package sent to … hmm.

I made a smaller one with size 10 needles and a co of 13 and knit till it was appx square. I’ll let you know how it goes.

 Keep us posted, JAN!

I like it! It could be slightly larger, but I’m happy with the density. So next time I’ll still cast on 13 on size 10 needles, but knit a few more rows.

That’s the sweet thing about knitting SCRUBBIES! It’s slo much fun to experiment til you have just the right forumla for the perfect Scrubbie!
