February KAL - Scrubbies

I would think these would be too rough to use in the shower. I have a friend who crochets shower scrubbies using plastic canvas yarn like this.

Actually, the Bath Shops selling nylon netting scrubbies! I have two in my shower. One for my bod, one to clean the tub! Each in a different color! No mistakes!

If you have ANY dry skin on your legs, “ash”, it comes right off with that nylon netting shower scrubbie!

The nylon netting isn’t combined with any cotton, and they are wadded up in grapefruit-size poofy balls! They really suds up nicely! I think the nylon netting is a slightly softer grade than the nylon netting on those spools. I think.

I found some netting in a craft store, but i suspect it to be too stiff for the scrubbies. I hope this week i’ll have the time to try and knit it with some cotton i have

Artlady - How did you cut your spools in half? I recieved my netting from Linda Friday and I am ready to start. Thanks

I used an electric knife to cut just through the netting so the spool remained intact. Obviously that doesn’t work well with the other spools.

My husband cut them in half using a Japanese Fine Tooth Saw…then…I got an idea…and we tried my Cutco bread knife (we had so many spools to do!)…lo and behold, it cut through the spool better than his Japanese saw!

Well I just so happen to have a cutco bread knife. I think I’ll give it a try. Otherwise I’ll go out in DH’s shop and see what he can do.

Hey luv! Yep! I cutco knife can take a finger off real quick!

We had to be careful how we held the spool. I held one side, he held the other side and he cut in a sawing motion. He was so afraid he’d take off my finger! :teehee: The knife even made short work of sawing through the core of the spool! A testimony for the Cutco double-d blade edge!

The Cutco bread knife actually did a better job. It didn’t mangle the netting at all. Sometimes the Japanese Fine Tooth saw would mangle a bit of the netting.

DARN!!! I’ve been to JoAnn’s twice and still managed to forget the netting!!! :roflhard: These senior moments are killing me! This weekend for sure.

Ok I got my netting cut in 1/2 yesterday. Turns out I don’t have a cutco bread knife. I used the Heineken bread knife instead. It was tough cutting the spools in 1/2 but I did it. I was hoping DH wouldn’t walk in while I was cutting, since I am always on him about what he uses the “good” knives on. I finished up before he walked in and managed to NOT cut off any fingers.

Tomorrow I will begin my knitting. I wonder if the netting will scratch up my options. I hate to mess them up. Artlady and Jan or anybody lse in KH land what needles are you using?

I used my Options, but they seem to be fine.

Aww, man I keep forgetting to look for tulle when I go to Walmart - ugh what a bad case of sometimers.

You know how it is: soup or gravy boils over, you clean up the burner bowls and the surrounding stovetop…but whaddya forget? Yup, underneath the burners! Today, whilst changing the foil for my burner bowls, I got a horrid glimpse underneath. I had forgotten to wipe up that last boil-over!
Yuck. Now it is a dried, crusty mess. BUT WAIT! Scrubbie to the rescue! I poured 1/2 cup soapy water into the well, waited a minute, and took a Scrubbie to it! VOILA! No fuss, no muss!
Used a sponge to soak up the 1/2 cup soapy water!

Another use for a Scrubbie (needs no words!):

And finally, reserve a special Scrubbie (tubside) for this daily chore:

And we thought DISHES was all a Scrubbie was good for!

Hey Artlady, I was thinking about those uses, too.

I made 2 today and have many others planned. My DD said, coool!" When I sat down next to her to knit my 1st one up. She went straight to the bag of netting spools and yarn and pulled out the next colors for me to knit. Make knitting these that much more fun. :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Here they are. I will make more soon. My DD wanted to take one and start using it right away. I would let her use it until I took the picture. I plan to give these as gifts.

Artlady I don’t know how you can make so many in one sitting. They were hard on my hands.

I got my spools and cut them - not easy for me but they are done. I’m going to make some this weekend.

Those are pretty ones, Luv! I doubt I can make more than one or two in an evening either. :teehee:

I was thinking of those other uses, too. I need to make a few for other things now!

Yup, they are hand on the hands. Not just the roughness of knitting the netting…but the hand ‘muscle’ it takes to knit the stitch! Those stitches don’t ‘glide’!

Sure made me grateful to get back to Rowan Polar!

@ Artlady, love those Campbell’s containers you have on your counter

I picked up some tulle @ Michaels this weekend. I know, I know not the same as nylon netting but it’s a start … now to cut em up and knit on.

Ok, I manage to cut up one roll … with our bread knife … shhh no one tell DH.
