Favorite Yarn for a Kids pullover sweater??

Hello,

I am an intermediate beginner and I would like to knit a fall/spring sweater for my 7 year old niece, and I am trying to figure out what I should use. Here are my guidelines

I don’t want to use Acrylic,
Needs to be next to skin soft
minimal to no pilling, maintains shape
prefer machine washing, but that might be just too much to ask.
If it is hand wash I will be the one washing it, not my sister.
If my niece likes it it will be worn out about the time she grows out of it.
Keeping the budget under $100 for yarn and prefer under $75 for the sweater.

Let me know your thoughts. Thanks in advance everyone.

Try a superwash wool. They are soft on the skin and machine washable (gentle cycle, low dryer). It doesn’t felt; I’m not sure if that’s the cause of pilling or not. I haven’t used it because I prefer fibers that felt, but I know some people who have used it. My suggestion would be to get one skein of it and knit a gauge swatch. Then wash and dry it, rub on it like it’s being worn and see how it comes out. [quote=“codenamepeppie, post:1, topic:122727, full:true”]

Ok, what did I do that made it post the original question?

Welcome to KnittingHelp!
I agree, a superwash wool would work. I’m using WEBS Valley Yarn merino superwash right now. Plymouth merino. superwash is also nice.
There are also some nice acrylic wool blends which are machine washable like Plymouth Encore or Cascade Pacific. Great color choice for both.

Thank you for the suggestions everyone.
