Fabric Paint on Socks?

I think I read that fabric paint on the bottoms on socks will keep one from slipping, much like the soles of slippers or clogs. Will the paint also help prevent wear through on the bottoms of the socks? iIwear my socks around the house without shoes, and they wear out on the bottoms. I often use double yarn in those areas, but that means double yarn across the instep also. Same for the nylon yarn for using with socks, whatever that is called.
If anyone has any thoughts about the paint, I’d love to hear them.

I’m not sure how it would affect wear, but I’ve heard of people using it that like it. Have you heard of the leather soles for slippers/socks? I plan to make some heavier weight slipper socks and use them. More comfort, warmth and would probably help wear. You can get them lined in fleece or plain.
Here’s one place that sells them.

I’m not sure how you make socks, but if you use two circs you can make the bottoms with double yarn and the tops single.

Thanks Jan, I use ML and only need the extra yarn or whatever at the ball of my foot, all the way across, between the toes and arch. I’ve doubled the yarn often at the heel, but can’t figure out how to do it at this part of the foot without going all the way around. Seems like if I do it at the ball of the foot and then drop it, when I get back the yarn will be on the wrong side. Is it different with 2 circs?

With two circs you have half your stitches on one and half on the other. I’ve done it with the sole all one needle and the top on the other so it would be easy to do whatever you want w/o it affecting the rest of the foot. I actually just bought some size 0 needles to do the heel and ball of foot and toes while the rest of the foot will be on size 1.

Yes I was going to suggest that with either DPNs or 2 corcs in the 2 different sizes.
The doubling wool would have to be done knitting the soles and insteps separately a bit like some bootees have. So knit the instep/top half of the foot flat. Then knit the sole and every time you get to the end of a row on the sole, knit the last stitch together with a stitch from the instep. It will make a slight join running along each side of the foot though (and up the ankle).
