Eyelet row

Hello my lovely and handsome knitting friends…

I have a question for you…

I am working on a small bag, and I need to improvise an eyelet hole round near the top.

there are 114 st, on 3 mm needles…and I will be felting the project slightly when I am done…

Can someone suggest a good eyelet repeat that I can use to drawstring said bag?

Thank you very much!

If you do something like k2tog, yo, k5 repeat - I’d be afraid your yarn over holes would close up when you felted it. May a double yo might make a big enough hole not to close up.

Or cut holes after felting with a hole punch or something…?

I’m pretty sure the holes wouldn’t felt if you put something non-feltable through them before felting. I think that running acrylic yarn, maybe 2 or 3 strands through the holes would stop the yarn from felting closed. Then you could do a k2tog yo k5 type eyelet row.

What are you threading through the holes? I did a purse once that called for an i-cord threaded through the regular knit stitches (since they are pretty loose anyway when you plan to felt). I was very skeptical about this working, but the instructions said to thread the i-cord through the knit stitches, THEN FELT! I figured the i-cord would felt with the stitches and I’d have a mess. It didn’t. And I felted that purse good. Strange but true. I did make sure I moved the cord through the holes whenever I checked the purse during the felting process though.

Wow…very good ideas, none of which I had thought about…

Hmm…

I need to finish the project before I decide how felted it will be…I think maybe just a little bit…where the stitchs are still a little visible, but I am not sure yet…
