Eyelet polka dot pattern. please help

I have a pattern that says with multiples of eight k4, skp, yo twice, k2tog but I cabt fit that into the eight stitches. Its my second time trying a lacy type thing and I can never seem to get the right stitch numbers right. What could be doing wrong?

Welcome to KnittingHelp!
It may be in the way you’re doing some of the sts.
k4, skp, yo twice, k2tog
The skp and k2tog are both decreases that use 2 sts and end with one stitch decreased in each case and the yarn over twice will increase the stitch count. On the next row, you may work into the double yarn over and that would maintain the stitch count at 8. Here’s a video for the skp that may help.

Thank you for your reply. It’s just that when I follow the instruction (I have been trying to practice with just 16 stitches) unless I’m doing it wrong the stitches in the instructions add up to 9 - the K4, skp (2) yo (1) K2tog (2) - am I understanding it wrong?
k4, skp, yo twice, k2tog

k2tog = knit 2 together, a decrease that leaves you with 1 stitch from 2. http://www.knittinghelp.com/video/play/knit-2-together-english

k4, skp, yo twice, k2tog*

The k4 uses 4 sts and leaves you with 4sts.
The skp uses 2sts and leaves you with one st.
The yo twice takes no sts and leaves you probably with 2 sts depending on the instructions for the next row.
The k2tog takes 2 sts and leaves you with one.
So the pattern takes 8sts and leaves you with 8sts.
The yo won’t use a stitch. You just bring the yarn forward between the needles and then over the righthand needle (twice in this case) and then proceed directly to the k2tog.

Thank you so much I didnt know that the yo didnt take a stitch. I am going to try again with your advice :slight_smile:
