Eyelet hearts problems

Well I think I am going crazy with this so I thought I would ask you all for a little help :teehee:

I want to make the “eyelet hearts” stitch pattern from Vogue knitting vol. 1 (knits and purl), and something doesn’t make sense. Here’s the pattern (on a multiple of 12 + 3 stitches)

row 1: k2 yo, k2tog, k3, yo, k1, yo, k3, skp, yo, k1 k1
row 2 and all WS rows: purl
row 3: k2 k1, yo, k4tog, yo, k3, yo, sk4p, yo, k2 k1
row 5: k2 k1, k2tog, yo, k5, yo, skp, k2 k1
row 7: k2 k2tog, yo, k7, yo, skp, k1, k1
row 9: k1, k2tog, yo, k9, yo, sl1-k2tog-psso skp, k1
row 10: purl

(sk4p: slip next 4 stitches knitwise, one at a time, insert LH needle into fronts of the stitches and k them tog).

So for 15 stitches, row 1 will add 2 stitches and row 3 will decrease 2. Row 5 and 7 will leave the number of stitches unchanged. So what’s with row 9? It seems to be needing 18 stitches, not 15. Am I interpreting something wrong?

that one is a little difficult to follow in my head. I’d probably have to sit down with needles to figure it out, but yeah. something doesn’t seem right.

row 1 looks like it uses up 15 stitches, row 9 looks like it uses up 18. :scratchinghead:

Have you tried looking up errata?

Yup, I went on Vogue knitting’s website and looked at the errata for the book, but this particular pattern isn’t there.

So row 9 uses 18 stitches an decreases two it seems. :?? I really don’t get it! I think I will email Vogue knitting and see what they say.

My book shows this:

row 9: k1, k2tog, *yo, k9, yo, sl1-k2tog-psso; rep from *, end rep skp, k1

I take this to mean do the yo, k9, yo, sl1-k2tog-psso part for as many repeats as I have for the width of my piece, then on the last repeat, I would not sl1-k2tog-psso, but skp, k1.

This would keep the border edge the same, matching the k1, k2tog on the other edge.

HA! krazy4cats, I think you are totally right! I guess I didn’t read it right! Thanks so much!!! :cheering:
