I want to be able to knit a “regular” pair of socks one of these days, but for now I’ve been knitting little tube socks. Using size 2-9" bamboo circular needles for the body/tube, and size 2-4" bamboo DPNs for the toe decrease. (I’m getting better with the DPNs, but still not totally comfortable with them.) I thought I’d never like working with needles that small, but I actually enjoy it! So far I’ve just been doing various K-P ribbing for the cuff and body of the socks.
Now I read as much as possible about sock construction as I can, and keep seeing a lot about this “eye of partridge” stitch that many knitters use for the heel. It’s supposed to be very sturdy, wear well, but still have ‘give and stretch’. Here’s my question for all you expert sock knitters out there…
Do you think I could use this EOP stitch for the whole tube/body of my socks or would it NOT have enough stretch to it? I think it’s an attractive stitch and thought it just might give these socks a little more durability. Jeanie
