What is the name of the pattern and the issue of Leisure Arts please?
It might be a reference to tunisian crochet but if you read the supplies for the pattern you can probably rule that in or out. Tunisian crochet uses a very long hook.

I’m not finding anything on the Annie’s site. Can you post a picture of the pattern? Not the whole thing, but the part you’re asking about, and maybe what the afghan should look like.
