Everyday Knit Cardigan from Red Heart

Hello! How is everyone!

I am currently knitting the Everyday Knit Cardigan from Red Heart for my Mam. I have the back completed, I just finished the right front panel, but the armholes do not line up. Even though I followed what the pattern said to do. The front panel is longer.

Should I just undo some rows until I reach the same measurement for the back?

Curious if anyone else has tried this pattern and had the same issue?

Thank you so much in advance

Is this the pattern? If not can you provide a link?

If so I’d say frog the extra. Does your row gauge on the front and back pieces measure the same? Row gauge differences could account for some or all of the length variance.
Work in stocking st until work from
beg measures same length as Back
before armhole shaping, ending on
purl row.

If that’s the correct pattern, it says:
Cont even in stocking st until
armhole measures same length as
Back before shoulder, ending on a
purl row. Cast off.

So yes, they should be the same length. Did you do too many repeats of the decrease section, maybe? Should be 20 rows total for the armhole/neck decreases, and then work even in stocking stitch.

Hello! Thank you for your reply. Yes, that is the pattern, and my gauge is the same for both pieces, I checked that too. The pattern said to work specific four rows until you had 43 sts left, then work until armhole is the same as the back. However, when I followed the pattern, the front panel is longer than the back, without adding more rows after the 43 sts.

Hello! Thank you for your reply. The pattern said to work specific four rows until you had 43 sts left, then work until armhole is the same as the back. However, when I followed the pattern, the front panel is longer than the back, without adding more rows after the 43 sts. So, if I frog some of the rows to make it measure the same as the back, wouldn’t that mess up the overall stitch counts and the outcome of the cardigan?

I was just looking at the pattern again, and thinking about what you said…was I supposed to count the rows 1234 as individual 14 more times? Because I thought it was grouping the 1234 as one of the 14 more rows.

You’re correct though about repeating the last 4 rows 14 times
Row 1 = 1 row
Row 2 3 4 5 = 4 rows
Rep Last 4 rows 14 times = 56 rows
Total = 61 rows
Now work straight to length.

Based on the given gauge the number of rows in the back armhole for 25.5 cm would be 64 rows.
That makes 3 rows straight on the front to be equal. 61 + 3 = 64

If you have a longer armhole when finishing the front shaping you might have different row gauge to the pattern in which case you need to look at what row gauge you’re getting so that you can decide how best to fix this to make the armholes equal, the right size, and also acheive the shaping in time before reaching the bind off.
