English Angora rabbit

I bought my first English Angora rabbit tonight! I can’t wait to spin me some angora fibers! I’m so excited. Her name is Muff (which is going to have to change, I can’t even begin with all the dirty jokes, there’s just too many). She was born 4-26-06, but I won’t get her until Nov. the 4th. And then I will be getting another one on Nov. 19th. There are picture of her on my blog.

Ack! Soooo fluffy and floofy! She’s adorable! :inlove:

OMG she is soooo freaking cute. I’d love to have a rabbit, but hubby says no. Hmmmph! I’m spinning some 100% angora right now.

My boyfriend was trying to be sneaky and said 'If you get a job, you can get a rabbit, because I’m not paying to feed it." Wellll, I got a job and now I’m getting two Angoras. That’ll teach him. :eyebrow:

And to top it off, he even built a cage for both. :teehee:

They’re beautiful Holly!

I got a breeding pair of German Angoras last year and found out I was allergic to them!!! :wall:

Ohhh, that’s sad. :frowning: I’m allergic to cats and live with seven, but I’m not horribly allergic, just get a little snotty nose action. I sure hope I’m not allergic to them, eek!

I wasn’t allergic to the California & New Zealand rabbits we had.

When I brushed out my Angoras, my hands would get itchy, my nose would get itchy and if I kept it up, my hands would swell. Not a pretty sight!

I even gave the poor things a bath hoping that would help. It didn’t :pout:

I still have some of their fiber (champagne colored agouti - yum!)

That doesn’t sound good at all, I only swell up if one of my cats scratches me, not just by touching 'em.

Is angora fiber hard to spin? worth the effort? easy to dye?

It can be pretty slippery to spin, kind of like kid mohair slivers.

It’s not worth it to me to spin it. I just don’t look good swollen with a drippy nose! :roflhard:

I haven’t dyed it yet but I think it would take dye well since there is no lanolin.

 Good point! I guess I’ll have to wait and see how it goes.

card up a bit of wool with it - maybe 50/50 at first and as you get the feel of it, decrease the wool amount

Hmm, that’s a good idea. I can’t waaaaiiiiittt!! :woot: :woot:
