Elizabeth Zimmermann's Woodsman thick socks - slip stitch?

So I’m making this sock its my first pair of socks and it keeps telling me to slip the first stitch on every row. I’ve been doing this and the more I do this the more it looks wrong! Now correct me if I’m wrong but I thought s means slip and to slip means you do not knit the stitch - you just slid it on to the next needle and continue knitting - skipping that stitch.
Can someone tell me what I’ve done wrong here - I’m really confused! Thank you so much - Caitlin Al-Ansari :pout:

Caitlin, would you type out the directions that apply to this section of the sock? That would help us figure out what you should be doing. And what part of the sock is it? The pattern on the leg? A heel flap?
