Einstein Coat

:cheering: :cheering: Yay Andrea!

If a KAL starts on this, I’m in. Of course I have to get the pattern…the dh just asked if I want anything else for my bday… :happydance:

And yes, Wool-Ease does pill a bit. I use it for socks a lot, and though very cozy, once washed, it pills some. Not as much as WOTA, though.

Manos sells for almost $15 a skein at my LYS, but the colors are luscious!

I put the book on hold at my library. Looks interesting! Can’t wait to see what you all do with it!..the coat pattern I mean, not the book. :roflhard:

BTW did anyone notice the gallery of finished Einstein Coats? They tell what they did and give hints, too. That’s a good website for anyone thinking of doing this coat.

Oh, Yay! Andrea!!! You’re going to beat all of us to the finish line on this one. Why don’t you start up the Knit Along (or did you already – wasn’t on here at all yesterday)? I’m not sure when I’m going to get to this.

And, Jan, I did see that web site. They all did a fabulous job, didn’t they?

I’ve ordered Melville’s book to get the pattern, but I’d also like to get the yarn already. The bulky yarn is just not practical here in the South, so for those of you with the book, can you help me? I’d like to knit the coat in worsted weight. How much yardage do I need?

You’re welcome Julie! Yeah, I think this coat will look great in that rust color also. That’s what the coat I saw was like even though I said
reddish brown… ha Too bad Manos goes for so much, $15 is the usual price or $14.50… Naked Sheep in Vermont is having a sale online right now and it’s a close out of Manos for $12 or 12.50 but the only colors are pink, raspberry, purples.

Just think of what a coat like this would go for in a good store! Wow.

You’re in luck! There’s another pattern in the book that is called Not-So-Warm Coat. It uses 1850 to 2460 yds of worsted weight yarn and Size 6 needles. She used Paton’s Katrina, btw, in color #10031 - Chocolate.

What about Paton’s Shetland Chunky? Joann’s has it on sale for $4.29/148 yards. That would work out to less than $40.

Has anyone used this yarn? I don’t want to use it if it’s not going to wear well. I’d rather spend the $$ on the Lopi. But if it’s a decent yarn, I’d be more than happy to SAVE the $$.

ETA: Joann’s has free shipping thru 2/8 PLUS you get 10% off your order if you buy 8 or more skeins. Someone please stop me if this is a huge mistake!

Thanks, Julie! So go with nubby yarns, right, not the smooth ones? Of course looking at the pic, the nubby yarn, knit in that cream, kind of makes the model look like a sheep. I love it! (Of course I might look like a sheep for an entirely different reason! )

Ang …

The coat knit w/ Katrina doesn’t look nubby at all. I was suprised to see the Katrina looking nubby in the ball because the coat in the picture in the book looks really smooth, and it looks like it’s knit at a tighter gauge than the Einstein. Of course that is probably just because of the yarn being a lighter weight.

Oh no, but I’d gotten all excited about nubbiness! :rofling:

Maybe I will go post in the KAL thread for this!! :cheering: :cheering: Oh I’m so excited to do this!

Well, Ladies, I’d say it’s a go here, too. I got Ingrid’s “OK” on the Paton’s Shetland Chunky. So, I think I’ll give it a try in Deep Taupe. :cheering:

NO NO NO! I love KoolWool!!! :?? :frowning:

Julie, I saw the Einstein coat at Wool and Co. this week-end. It is very nice!! I pulled myself out of the store before I started down the slippery path of yarn gathering.

But I am still thinking about it!

Mary !! You were @ Wool & Co?? Well, you were just a hop, skip and a jump away. I was almost there this weekend, but now I can’t remember why I needed to go. :??

How’s that for pathetic?

You should join us!! {swinging shiny object back & forth in front of Mary’s face}

shiny object working on me…have sudden urge to grab purse and get in car

Many hours and hundreds of miles later, Angelia wakes up and wonders what the hell she’s doing in the outskirts of Chicago.

:roflhard: :roflhard:

All I’ll remember is “YARN!” Which makes the day much like any other day!

I was in Hobby Lobby earlier this week, and I saw a skein of Katrina. It’s really pretty! It’s not really nubby, so to speak, but it has a shiny texture running through it. It would make a beautiful Not-So-Warm Coat. I think you should look in to it!!
