Easy scarf pattern?

I bought a skein of sparkly pink yarn to knit into a longer, skinny scarf for my niece’s 9th birthday in February. Haven’t found a pattern that would be easy enough for me to execute and show off the sparkle in the yarn. I think I’d like to use stockinette stitch but know it will roll into a giant tube. Would putting a border of garter stitches at the ends help eliminate that? Should I just garter stitch the whole thing? or pattern with basket weave?

What a lovely gift for your niece and sparkly pink yarn sounds perfect. Garter stitch at the ends won’t keep the scarf from curling along the length and even a border up the edges may not help. It’s likely to flip to the inside. How about an all garter stitch scarf?

or one that is knit/purl rib?

What weight is your yarn and how many yards do you have?

It’s a 4 and I have 200 yards. I love the video that was with the rib stitched scarf. Thanks so much! Will look up how to knit into the front and back of a stitch, but otherwise I know how to do everything else in the directions.

My favourite scarf pattern is the Yarn Harlot’s 4-stitch pattern. I have made many of these…not as boring as rib, and a more interesting look to it.

Cast on 26 stitches.
Every row is: k2, k1b, (knit in the back of stitch), P1…repeat across the row.
Repeat this one row for pattern, for as long as you like. I like most scarves quite short so they don’t dangle beneath my jacket, and I dislike wrapping them around my neck (choking).
