Easy Beginners Sock Pattern?

Hi friends:

My New Years Resolution is to learn how to knit in the round. I went to Michaels today and purchased some Bernat Satin Sport in a colourway called Seashore (because I am allergic to wool so I could not buy the actual sock yarn they had) and a set of US #3 DPN’s (they only had that size or US #6’s which I thought might be too big).

Michaels has a 30% sale on all yarns and yarn accessories this week so I got a deal on these supplies (which at this time of year is important to my budget).

I am determined to learn how to knit in the round and to make socks this year.

Could anyone tell me where I could find a free beginner’s pattern for socks? I intend to watch Silver’s Sock Tutorial many many times and keep trying until I get it right.

Hey Christine!
We have the same goal- I am going to learn how to make socks this year too.
Silver’s sock class is a great picture by picture way to do socks, so I don’t think you’ll even need a pattern to do them. Just follow the directions.
Something else to check out is the Yarn Harlot’s book “Knitting Rules!” where she has her basic sock recipe. This really helps in understanding how a sock works. I don’t know if it’s posted online, but it’s worth reading (even if you just go into Chapters one day and read that section!).

Thanks sweetie. I will do just that, or perhaps I might purchase the book so I can have a reference guide once I get home and have forgotten half of what I have read. I already own one Yarn Harlot book. I was hoping to get her to sign it for me, but she did not respond to the message I sent her. Oh well, life goes on!

Try Amy’s video on making a baby sock.It easier because you don’t have a full adult sock to knit.

I’ll have to recommend Silver’s Sock Tutorials for a newbie sock-maker. Love it and can do them totally by memory now. It’s not a pattern per say but is the most basic sockmaking you will need to get them done. Mary

fibernut told me about this last night in the chat room–I intend to do socks too, and I read thru Silver’s tutorial and thought it looked very doable! I have to get to Michael’s… yay gift card!
