Easiest blanket pattern for a newbie?

i’m just getting started with knitting and thought i would try to do a baby blanket for a friend of mine who is due in july. i picked up some gorgeous multi-colored yarn, but haven’t had any luck finding a simple pattern. can you please link me to one?

thanks! jennie

Red Heart’s Baby Soft makes a cute and cuddly blanket, I’m working on one right now in blue for my friend who’s due this summer. Here’s the link to the pattern that I got from the Micheals website, http://www.michaels.com/art/online/projectsheet?pid=24157

Its basically just knit stitch with some yarn overs (YO) and some knit 2 stiches together (K2tog). The gauge is 8 sts per 4 inches. I’m using the recommended size 15 US needles. I am a beginner as well and wanted something quick and easy. I don’t know about the quick part but it seems to be easy enough.

I was going to post this earlier, but the pattern site was down. This is one of the easiest.

If you get confused just ask for help.

If you want a super easy blanket that doesn’t require a pattern (like you can talk, watch TV, etc., while you do it), you can do a simple basket weave.

K4 P4 repeat across. Knit the knit stitches and purl the purl stitches for 3 more rows. Then P4 K4 repeat across. Knit the knit stitches and purl the purl stitches for 3 more rows. Repeat pattern until the blanket is done.

So every 4 rows you’re changing the knits to purls and it (kind of) looks like a basket weave.

I just finished one. I have an acquaintance who is a chaplain at a local hospital who gives out blankets to preemies in the neonatal intensive care unit.
