Dyeing with Kool-Aid

I just got finished reading another thread about yarn dyeing and I am wanting to dye my own sock yarn to make Christmas socks. Finding red and green yarn this time of the year is a little difficult, so I figured I would try making my own, because face it, if I want these socks to be done by Christmas, I need to start now!! Anyway, my question is, when dyeing with Kool-Aid, does the lime mix come out in a traditional Christmas green color, or do you think I should go a different route, i.e. food coloring?

Thanks!

Stacy

Here is a link to a color chart of some colors.

Looks pretty bright to me. Might have better luck combining a yellow and blue to make the color you want. (Or, yeah, food coloring of that Wiltons cake stuff.)

Here is a link to lime green koolaid dyed yarn…

You might try some of the dyes available at www.knitpicks.com or www.dharmatrading.com.

yeah. it’s pretty bright…

Thanks for all the great advice. I do agree that the Kool-Aid green is definitely too bright!! I will look into the other options that you all mentioned.

SandraEllen- Love the picture of the cat. Looks just like my cat, Gracie Jane!
