Dyeing and spinning questions

I knitting for about a year now, I guess I say I’m intermediate. I’ve been interested in spinning for a while now, it seems really cool! I’m taking a class in beginning spinning but I’m also been looking up a lot of things about dyeing because it sounds really fun too! If I end up liking spinning (which I think I’ll love)

I was wondering should you dye the roving material or the yarn after its been spun? I know they create different looks but won’t dyeing before spinning strip the wool of its natural oils?

Also any recommendations on a beginner wheel? I’m going to test a few out at the class but I’d love to get some more advice or opinions.

You can dye the fiber at any time during the process … after it is shorn, before/after scouring, while it is in clouds or batts or roving, after it is spun or after you’ve made your object.

There is very little natural oil left in roving after it has been put up commercially.
