Dumb question on YO

So I have watched the video on YO. If directions say to YO, k1, does that mean I YO, then knit 1 or am is knitting one included in the YO? For example, if my directions are yo, k1-am I yarning over, knitting one, then knitting another one?

It’s just what it says; YO and then knit 1. What you do next will be whatever the instructions tell you. A YO is an increase and will leave an eyelet.

A YO is a stitch by itself. Some patterns will have you YO, k2tog, or YO, P1. If you yo, k1 for every yo, you’ll end up with the wrong number of stitches.
