Dreadlock hat?

A friend of mine was over today and I was showing her some of my FOs. She wants me to make her a pair of felted ballet slippers (already have patterns for that). She also would like me to make a hat for husband. She decribed the hat as being a regular knitted beanie, but with long dreadlock thingys hanging from the top. Has anybody ever heard of such a hat? If so do you know where I can find a pattern?

i would think you could do that by just making the hat and then attaching I-cords or cork screws to it.
