Welcome to KH!
Where is the double asterisk in the pattern? Can you tell us the name of your pattern?
The forum software uses asterisks to mark italics so it might be easiest to write out asterisk or double asterisk or use abbreviations where they occur.
Usually you work the stitches between the asterisks a given number of times and then work the double asterisks. Sometimes the double asterisks indicate an area on the back that is repeated on the front of say a sweater.
Hello. Sorry about that. I thought both ** were in there. I have included the photo. The pattern is from Yarnspirations and is the Asymmetrical lace knit shawl. Thank you.
K1. yo.ssk. K3. K2tog. yo.** K4. K2tog. yo.
Rep from * to last 3 sts, ending at**.
Kfb. K2.
For row 13 K4. K2tog. yo. Then work the repeat. The repeat is
K1. yo.ssk. K3. K2tog. yo. ** K4. K2tog. yo. which takes 14sts.
When you get to the last 11sts you’ll only be able to work * K1. yo.ssk. K3. K2tog. yo. ** in place of a full repeat. That’ll take 8sts and leave you with 3sts on the left needle.
For the last 3 sts, Kfb. K2
The other rows that you marked follow a similar pattern, Knit the repeat from single asterisk through the double asterisk up to where it says, “Rep from …”. When you get toward the end, with not enough sts to work a 14 sts repeat and the ending instruction, you’ll know to end the repeat at the double asterisk and then finish out the instructions for the row.
See if that helps and if not come back and ask. Actually, you might find the chart easier to follow than these written directions.
